Alyeska Fire/Rescue honors
9/11 firefighters

Alyeska Fire/Rescue held a remembrance ceremony at the Valdez
Marine Terminal for the firefighters who died in the Twin Towers
on Sept. 11, 2001.
At the ceremony, the Fire/Rescue Team read a proclamation from
Gov. Parnell honoring the fallen firefighters. The 343
firefighters lost in the Twin Towers represented the largest
single loss of life by emergency responders in our nation’s
history.
Those participating in the small service recognized a national
moment of silence at 9 a.m.
Alyeska’s remembrance centered on a bell ringing ceremony, a
tradition within the fire service, with the bell ringing
signifying the last alarm and that the firefighters have
returned home.
