New spill response technology for TAPS

The company recently added a new piece of equipment called BoomVane to its response toolkit. It is designed to contain spills and facilitate skimming in rivers and other fast-moving waterways.

Tom Stokes

Operations Manager of Power Vapor/Oil Movements and Storage

Tom Stokes grew up in South Dakota near the Wyoming border. He moved to Alaska in 1989 and joined Alyeska in 1991. Over the years he has worn many hats at Alyeska; including financial advisor, compliance supervisor and operations advisor. Stokes became oil movements and storage operations manager in 2001. He added power vapor operations manager to his title in 2002, after a corporate reorganization.

Stokes is an avid outdoorsman and hunter who is planning a three-week hunting trip in Africa next year.

Tanker Vapor Recovery

The Valdez Marine Terminal's Tanker Vapor Control System reduces the emission of crude oil vapor from tankers. It uses vapor compressors and special vapor recovery arms to collect these gases that accumulate in the empty spaces of shipboard oil tanks when they are displaced during the tanker loading process.
