2005
United Way of Anchorage Campaign
I am honored to co-chair the United Way of
Anchorage’s 2005 fund raising campaign. This annual drive kicks
off on September 1 and is key to helping make Anchorage a
stronger, healthier and more compassionate community. Money raised
will fund vital United Way of Anchorage’s initiatives aimed at
providing a community network of care that:
-
Strengthens families.
-
Encourages successful children.
-
Promotes wellness and self sufficiency.
-
Provides a safety net for people in crisis.
The 2005 fund raising campaign aims to raise
$9.2 million dollars. Most of the funds collected will help
support some 50 local partner agencies that touch and improve the
lives of virtually every Alaskan who lives in or visits Anchorage.
Alyeska Pipeline Service Company will be one of the more than 400
companies that will participate in the 2005 campaign. Individual
donors are expected to contribute 70 percent of the money raised,
largely through payroll deductions. I am sure that Alyeska
employees know through their personal examples that they have
encouraged my work with the United Way of Anchorage.
In all my years in the oil industry, I have never worked with a
group of individuals who were more committed to helping other
people and improving their community. Alyeska’s staff shows great
support for the company’s annual United Way fund drive. Individual
employees throughout the company routinely volunteer their
personal time and effort to support United Way sponsored programs.
Alyeska employees have set a high standard for community service.
Our company has followed their lead by developing a contributions
program that supports a variety of activities and organizations
statewide that empower children and strengthen families.
I ask that all of the readers of this column join this community
effort by generously contributing to the United Way of Anchorage’s
2005 fundraising campaign.
