President's Message
Kevin Hostler, President and CEO
Alyeska in the community
During
the last few months Alyeska Pipeline employees have been working
on the 30-year anniversary in commemoration of startup of the
Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS). I am proud of the company
and the many impacts TAPS has made on our state and its people
both economically and socially. We will continue to tell our
story “A 30-Year Journey” in speaking engagements throughout
Alaska during the coming weeks and months.
Alyeska and the North Slope Producers joined together on June
20th to partner in celebrations with our employees, community
leaders, contractors and other groups associated with the
startup of the pipeline. One of the special events included the
Alaska Pipeline Builders Association, 100 pipeline pioneers who
gathered at the Anchorage Petroleum Club to share their stories
of “the way it was” 30 years ago. We also hosted employee
events, picnics and community receptions in Fairbanks,
Anchorage, and Valdez.
In April, we launched a new assessment initiative called the
“Unified Plan,” a team-led project to ensure Alyeska continues
to achieve safety integrity management and reliability goals. We
continue to have discussions with regulators about the purpose,
scope, and implementation of the Plan. This includes how
identified risks are being integrated into our planning process
as we work closely with the Joint Pipeline Comprehensive
Monitoring Program. The scope of the assessment commences with
executive management, field interviews, and data collection in
August. We look forward to sharing the results that we will
release upon completion.
At the same time, we continue to support our community programs.
We have two major community commitments in September. I will be
chairing the 2007 Heart Walk for the second consecutive year on
Saturday, September 8th. The Walk encourages a healthy-heart
lifestyle and memorializes loved ones lost to heart failure.
Last year, the Walk raised more than $139,000. Please visit
http://heartwalk.kintera.org for more information.
The United Way Campaign will be led this year by Rod Hanson,
Alyeska’s Director of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality,
beginning with a company kick-off event in September at our
three business locations and along the pipeline. The goal is to
exceed last year’s employee pledges of $222,000, which are
matched dollar-for-dollar by Alyeska for a total community gift
of $444,000. Alyeska Pipeline conducts employee campaigns in
Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Valdez.
