Alyeska's Lorena Hegdal honored by American Indian
Science and Engineering Society
Alyeska's
Engineering Director Lorena Hegdal recently was awarded the
Professional of the Year Award from the American Indian Science
and Engineering Society (AISES) for 2007. This is the highest
honor the society bestows each year on its membership of over
3,000 active members and 15,000 alumni. Lorena will be presented
with the award at the 29th AISES Annual National Conference on
November 1, 2007 in Phoenix, AZ.
“We
are extremely proud of Lorena for receiving this award,” said
President and CEO Kevin Hostler. “I think it speaks volumes
about her leadership ability and her commitment to furthering
the advancement of Alaska Natives in the fields of science and
engineering.”
Lorena, pictured at right, was honored in part for the way she
manages the engineering efforts on behalf of Alyeska and helping
the company maintain its regulatory compliance to ensure the
safety and integrity of the pipeline system.
Lorena is an Inupiaq Eskimo originally from the northwest
community of Nome. Prior to working at Alyeska, Lorena spent
over 20 years working as a civil engineer for the Alaska
Department of Transportation designing airports, roads and
buildings.
AISES is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to
substantially increase the representation of American Indian and
Alaskan Natives in engineering, science and other related
technology disciplines. Each year awards are presented to
science, engineering and technical professionals in recognition
of their outstanding accomplishments as leaders, innovators and
role models.
