North Slope Crude Oil
Every day the Trans Alaska Pipeline System transports nearly a
million barrels of crude oil from the North Slope to
the Port of Valdez. When
refined and processed, crude oil becomes
petroleum - a product found in everything from the ink
on this newsletter to soaps,
deodorants, pharmaceuticals and
even bubble gum.
Petroleum products contribute about 40
percent of the energy used in the
United States, more than any other energy source. On average,
the United States consumes approximately 19
million barrels of
petroleum products per day.
