The Tank 111 project team recently received the President's Award for Excellence in Environment, Health and Safety for its safe and responsible replacement of two 48-inch tank valves at Pump Station 1 in 2003.

Janie Leask
Community Relations Manager

Janie Leask is a lifelong Alaskan who grew up in Anchorage and the Tsimshian community of Metlakatla, just south of Ketchikan. She graduated from East Anchorage High School and has worked in community relations for almost four decades. She joined Alyeska’s Corporate Communications team in 1999.

Janie is an avid hockey player who plays on a team with her 25-year-old son, David. She also enjoys yoga, traveling and organizing networking events for her friends.

Pipeline 101
Environmental Design

Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) engineers designed the 48-inch-diameter pipeline with the environment and wildlife in mind. One issue they addressed is the seasonal migration of caribou. More than 500 sections of pipeline are elevated at least ten feet so that migrating caribou can pass underneath and 25 other sections are buried to allow animals to cross without hindrance.
