Alyeska's
12th Annual Track and Field Day in Fairbanks
Alyeska’s 12th Annual Track and Field Day in Fairbanks in June
gave kids a chance to prove their strength and speed, and also
allowed at least one child to show his character.
Jason
Donald, 11, of North Pole, once again dominated the games. The
four-time defending champion won all of his events. His prize? A
shiny new bike.
Jason had won bikes from Alyeska before, after years of
competing in the popular games. So rather than add it to his
collection, he turned to a competitor, gave the other child the
bike, and in return, accepted a hug and thank you.
“He came out to race and to have a good time, but it wasn’t
really about the bike or the prize,” Rebecca Parker, Alyeska’s
Shareholder Relations Manager, told the Fairbanks Daily
News-Miner.
The Alyeska Track and Field Day is really about “making friends,
striving to better yourself, and growing as an individual,”
Parker told the newspaper.
Both
past and present employees gathered on the track of Fairbanks’
Lathrop High School to volunteer for the event. Alyeska Pipeline
Service Company also contributed funds and resources that made
the event possible, supplying refreshments and t-shirts and
prizes for the event.
“Alyeska means a lot to this community and the borough,” said
Michael Cox, Director of Parks and Recreation for the Fairbanks
North Star Borough. “Thank you for sponsoring this event. Thank
for making this possible. Thank you from the bottom of our
hearts for allowing this to happen for our community.”
