SCHEDULED SHUTDOWN OF TRANS-ALASKA PIPELINE OCCURS

ANCHORAGE, AK -- August 1, 1996 -- Alyeska Pipeline Service Company reported that a planned shutdown of the trans-Alaska pipeline is taking place today so crews can conduct scheduled maintenance work. The pipeline was shut down at 8:00 a.m. and will remain down for approximately 8 hours.

After Pump Station 10 was ramped down on July 1, a single piece of pipe was placed through the facility. During the shutdown, crews will place this “pass through” pipe into service at Pump Station 10. Other work will also be conducted at Pump Station 8, which was ramped down on June 30.

This is the second in a series of three shutdowns needed to complete maintenance work in conjunction with ramping down Pump Stations 8 and 10. The third shutdown is scheduled for August 6.
