CONTRACT WORKER INJURED; SAFETY REVIEW IN PROGRESS

ANCHORAGE, AK -- August 22, 1996. -- Alyeska Pipeline Service Company reported that personnel at the Valdez Marine Terminal will spend four hours today in mandatory safety training to review safety procedures and refresh their safety training following an incident yesterday that injured a contract worker. The injured worker was involved in maintenance work on one of the crude storage tanks. The worker fell approximately 20 feet off a pipe assembly running between crude storage tanks. He was medivaced to Anchorage and is in serious condition.

The overall safety record of the Marine Terminal remains good but recently several minor incidents, and yesterday’s injury, prompted the call for a safety review from Terminal Management. The safety review began today at one o’clock and will last approximately four hours.
