SPILL INVESTIGATION CONTINUES AT MARINE TERMINAL

ANCHORAGE, AK -- May 2, 1997. -- Alyeska Pipeline Service Company continues to investigate the source of approximately one barrel of weathered crude oil that was discovered at the Valdez Marine Terminal on Wednesday afternoon, April 30, 1997.

The oil was discovered in a containment site near the West Tank Farm and was cleaned up within four hours. No additional oil has been found.

Alyeska's investigation into the source of the leak is centered on the section of the Oily Water Sewer System that collects drainage from the West Tank Farm and transports it to the Ballast Water Treatment facility for treatment.
