News Bulletin 1275
TUG SELECTION PROCESS COMPLETE
|
VALDEZ, AK -- August 1, 1997 --
Alyeska Pipeline Service Company announced today the completion of the selection process
for the construction and operation of two 10,000 h.p. Voith Schneider Propulsion Tractor
Tugs scheduled for delivery in early 1999.
This is the culmination of a process that
began over a year ago when Governor Tony Knowles initiated a work group comprised of
industry, the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, the United States Coast
Guard and the Prince William Sound Regional Citizens Advisory Council to enhance the safe
transportation of oil.
The Governor stated today that he is
"very pleased that Alyeska is moving forward with this major advancement in the safe
transportation of oil. These new 10,000 horsepower tractor tugs go above and beyond any
technology that exists today. By advancing the state of the art, Alaska and Alyeska are
again showing the world that when it comes to oil development, we 'do it right'."
A letter of intent will be issued to the
successful bidder by August 8, 1997 with a subsequent contract award following approval of
contractual details.
