ALYESKA RECRUITS ALASKAN TO SERVE AS VICE PRESIDENT OF
STRATEGIC PLANNING AND CONTROL

ANCHORAGE, AK - OCTOBER 8, 1997 -
Alyeska Pipeline Service Company announced today that Melphine Evans will join the company
as Vice President responsible for Strategic Planning and Control. Ms. Evans will report
directly to Alyeska President and CEO Bob Malone. She will be responsible for corporate
strategic planning, development and implementation, as well as financial, tax and
regulatory accounting. She will oversee an annual budget exceeding $500 million. Ms. Evans
comes to Alyeska after five years as the Chief Financial Officer of the Anchorage
Telephone Utility.

Melphine's qualifications and experience right here in Anchorage," said Bob Malone,
President and CEO. "Her demonstrated leadership in financial management and her
strategic planning skills will add depth to our team."
Evans joins four other vice presidents who
serve on Alyeska's Executive Leadership Team and work with Malone to set direction for the
company. They include Senior Vice Presidents Lee Jones and Bill Newbold, Human Resources
Vice President Patty Ptacek, and Corporate Services Vice President Rob Shoaf.
Ms. Evans is active in the Anchorage
community and serves on several boards, including the Alaska Permanent Fund Board of
Trustees, The Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors, the Standing Together Against Rape
(STAR) Board of Directors, and the Anchorage Daily News Advisory Board.
Mal Horan, who has served as Vice President
of Strategic Planning and Control, will return to his parent company BP early next year.
