ALYESKA
EMPLOYEE DIES IN VEHICLE ACCIDENT AT VALDEZ MARINE TERMINAL

ANCHORAGE, AK
August 17, 2000.
A technician at the Valdez Marine Terminal died last night after the
dump truck he was driving rolled over an embankment at the terminal.
Jerry Barnes, 51, was pronounced dead on arrival at Valdez Medical
Center.
The cause of the
accident, which occurred at 9:38 p.m., is under investigation. The Joint
Pipeline Office and Department of Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) have been notified.
The Valdez Police
Department is conducting the official investigation of the accident.
Alyeska Chief Operating Officer Dan Hisey has also formed an internal
team to review the accident, consistent with company safety practices.
The team will assist Alyeska in understanding the cause of the accident.
Barnes was a
14-year Alyeska employee, with all of his service spent in Valdez. He is
survived by his wife, Patricia and their eight-year-old daughter Nicole.
Alyeska Human
Resources personnel and specialized grief counselors are in Valdez today
to provide support for those employees who need it.
