LIGHT SHEEN DISCOVERED AT THE VALDEZ MARINE TERMINAL

VALDEZ, AK - FEBRUARY 10, 2001 - At 2:56AM  today (Saturday), a light sheen was discovered inside the boom at Berth 5 of the Valdez Marine Terminal while the tank vessel S/R Benecia was in the later stages of completing loading and deballasting operations.   All operations were immediately suspended.

The required notifications have been made.   Alyeska's Ship Escort/Response Vessel System (SERVS) response personnel and equipment are responding.   The United States Coast Guard and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation are on the scene.  A full investigation is underway.  Preliminary estimated spill volume is 10 gallons.
