S/R BENICIA DEPARTS VALDEZ MARINE TERMINAL

Joint Press Release

VALDEZ, AK - FEBRUARY 11, 2001 - The S/R Benicia departed the Valdez Marine Terminal late Sunday morning having received approval to sail from the United States Coast Guard.  The vessel was accompanied by the Valdez Star and a helicopter overflight through Port Valdez.

Following the discovery of a sheen during cargo loading and deballasting operations on Saturday, an internal inspection of the vessel revealed a 3-4" fracture between the #5 Port Cargo Tank and #4 Port Segregated Ballast Tank.  The fracture did not affect the integrity of the vessel's hull.

Alyeska SERVS (Ship Escort/Response Vessel System) response personnel and equipment responded to the incident.   The estimated spill volume remains at 10 gallons.
