"First and foremost, we share in the tremendous sadness this
day has brought. All of us, like all Americans, are shocked by today’s
events and we need to remember that as we move forward.
"Operationally, Alyeska has ramped up security and focused
on protecting our people, the terminal, and the pipeline. We have
been in constant contact with the military, the FBI, and the Coast
Guard throughout the day and we will continue to maintain this level
of security until we all agree it is safe to return to normal
operations.
"Based on information the Coast Guard had concerning a
potential threat and in cooperation with the Coast Guard, we reduced
staffing levels at the Valdez Marine Terminal. That threat did not
materialize and we are now in the process of bringing full staffing
levels back into the terminal.
"I want to stress how impressed I am with the tremendous
professionalism demonstrated by the military, the FBI, and the Coast
Guard. Together, we’ve made decisions based upon the best
available information and thanks to this cooperation, the Trans
Alaska Pipeline System has remained safely in operation.
"As we close today, know that our operation is safe and let
us focus our thoughts and prayers on the victims of this senseless
day."
