SEARIVER BAYTOWN DEPARTED VALDEZ MARINE TERMINAL

VALDEZ, AK – January 18, 2002 – The tank vessel SeaRiver Baytown departed the Valdez Marine Terminal at 11:35PM Wednesday evening after satisfying the sailing requirements established by the United States Coast Guard.

Following the discovery of a small sheen during loading operations on Wednesday morning, inspection of the vessel revealed a hairline crack in starboard tank 6 approximately 3 feet above the water line. The sheen, contained within the boom around the ship, was cleaned up immediately. All cargo was emptied from the affected tank. The estimated spill volume remains at one teaspoon. The ship will be repaired before it returns to Valdez.
