PIPELINE SHUTS DOWN FOR SCHEDULED ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
VALVE REPLACEMENT PROJECT UNDERWAY
FAIRBANKS, AK - July 27, 2002 January 18, 2002 - Alyeska Pipeline Service Company successfully initiated a scheduled shutdown of the trans-Alaska Pipeline today, July 27 at 7:00 AM. The primary purpose of the shutdown is the replacement of Remote Gate Valve 39 near Coldfoot. Additional planned maintenance work is being performed at all pipeline pump stations and the Valdez Marine Terminal. The shutdown is scheduled to last approximately 30 hours.
While the valve replacement is occurring, over 150 Alyeska employees and contractors will tackle a variety of smaller maintenance projects at various locations along the 800-mile pipeline system. Alyeska has coordinated the shutdown operation with the North Slope producers. Oil flow into Pump Station 1 will be approximately 30 percent of the typical flow rate throughout the shutdown. The pipeline is scheduled to be restarted at 10:00 AM Sunday.
