PIPELINE RE-STARTED AFTER SCHEDULED ROUTINE MAINTENANCE SHUTDOWN
Valve Replacement Project Completed
FAIRBANKS, AK - July 28, 2002 The trans-Alaska pipeline was successfully restarted at approximately 1:00 PM today after a planned maintenance shutdown. One of the primary projects undertaken during the shutdown was the replacement of Remote Gate Valve 39, located about 280 miles north of Fairbanks. The valve replacement work was completed safely and on schedule.
In addition to the valve replacement, over 70 other maintenance tasks were completed along the pipeline, at the pump stations and at the Valdez Marine Terminal. There was a slight delay of the restart of the line when there was a discrepancy between visual inspection and remote indications of the status of two remote gate valves. Upon further inspection, it was determined that the readings in the Operations Control Center at the Valdez Marine Terminal were correct and the pipeline was restarted without incident. The shutdown work was completed safely with no injuries or spills on the pipeline.
