Alyeska Pipeline Set to Initiate a Series of Short Shutdowns

ANCHORAGE, AK Alyeska Pipeline Service Company will complete a series of five short-term pipeline shutdowns over the next several weeks in order to perform upgrade work on several remote gate valves along the 800 miles of the trans-Alaska pipeline. Remote gate valves are safety mechanisms that are strategically placed along the pipeline and are designed to close, trapping and limiting the amount of oil that could spill in the event of a pipeline integrity breach or rupture. Each shutdown is scheduled to last approximately four hours and will be coordinated such that there will be no impact to planned production on the North Slope or tanker loading in Valdez. Additional minor pump station work will be accomplished during these times to take advantage of the shutdowns.

The dates and times for the shutdowns are as follows:

  • July 18 0800 - 1200
  • July 19 1400 - 1800
  • Aug 8 1000 - 1400
  • Aug 10 1000 - 1400
  • Aug 12 1000 - 1400
