Pipeline to Shut Down for Project Work and Scheduled Routine Maintenance
Anchorage, AK – Alyeska Pipeline Service Company will initiate
a scheduled shutdown of the trans-Alaska pipeline at 6:00 a.m. on
June 19, 2005. Oil will stop flowing through the 800-mile-long
pipeline for approximately 36 hours while maintenance crews work
on a variety of projects from Prudhoe Bay to the marine terminal
in Valdez.
The primary scope of work includes:
- Installing more infrastructure at Pump Station 4
for the new electric driven pumps for the Strategic
Reconfiguration (SR) Project;
- Replacing both Pig Trap Launcher valves at Pump
Station 4;
- Installing a 48-inch Check Valve at Pump Station
7; and
- Performing a myriad of maintenance tasks on
selected valves.
The pipeline is scheduled to restart at 6:00 p.m. on Monday,
June 20, 2005.
This is the first of two scheduled pipeline shutdowns this
summer. Alyeska conducts line-wide shutdowns nearly every year to
allow maintenance crews time to work on projects simultaneously
along the pipeline and at the terminal. These shutdowns will
coincide with the producers’ routine maintenance on equipment and
facilities on the North Slope. Loading and delivery of North Slope
crude should not be affected by the shutdown.
The second shutdown is scheduled for July 23-24 and will last
approximately 36 hours.
