Pipeline Restarted Sunday
Check Valve 109 Replaced
Fairbanks, AK – Alyeska Pipeline Service Company safely
restarted the trans-Alaska pipeline at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Sunday, July 23, following a successful scheduled maintenance
shutdown. Key work activities included replacement of Check
Valve 109 near the Klutina River, installation of a Check Valve
at Pump Station 10 and valve testing near Atigun Pass.
Approximately 30 other work tasks were performed at the pump
stations and at the Valdez Marine Terminal during the shutdown.
The pipeline was shutdown at approximately 6:00 a.m. Saturday,
July 22 and was not scheduled to restart for 36 hours. Due to
several months of planning and the incorporation of lessons
learned from previous maintenance shutdowns, the projects were
completed safely and ahead of schedule. The loading and delivery
of North Slope crude was not affected by the shutdown.
