Alyeska Receives Governor's Arts Award

Alyeska Pipeline Service Company was presented with the Governor’s Award for the Arts, Business Leadership Award on February 17 in Juneau. The Business Leadership Award was presented to Alyeska in an awards ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion in Juneau. Alyeska was recognized for their “extraordinary and continued contribution to Alaska’s cultural development.” Alyeska was nominated for the award by various theater and artistic organizations in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Alyeska contributes approximately $100,000 each year to arts organizations in Fairbanks, Valdez and Anchorage. The company’s support of the arts includes contributions to the Anchorage Symphony, the Anchorage Concert Association, the Fairbanks Symphony Association, the Fairbanks Concert Association, and the Valdez Community College Theatre Conference.

Police Called to VMT

Police and bomb-squad personnel were called to the Valdez Marine Terminal on Friday afternoon to check out a black case that had been left near the tanker crew shelter. Proper procedures were followed while the ownership of the case was determined. The case contained equipment used by a gauging crew that had accidentally left it behind. The situation was resolved before the bomb-squad arrived at the Terminal.
