ALYESKA REPORT
WEEK OF JUNE 1, 1998
|
Pipeline Right of
Way Repaired After Flood Damage
A 30-foot section of the pipeline
Right of Way is being repaired after flash floods in the area exposed a buried section of
pipe. A crew from Pump Station 5 was performing surveillance in the area to check for
flood damage when a report of the exposed pipe at pipeline mile post 229, north of
Coldfoot, was received from the Alaska State Troopers.
The erosion was approximately 10 feet in
depth. It is believed the erosion occurred earlier that day. No impact to operations
occurred. Minor scratches in the tape and coating around the pipe were discovered and
repaired before the pipeline was reburied. The ditch is being backfilled this week and a
low water crossing installed to prevent a similar flooding situation from occurring in the
future.

The
pipeline "reliability factor" is the amount of time the pipeline is operating
and available to transport North Slope Crude oil. There was one pipeline shutdown in May
to pressure test a section of pipe.
