Alyeska Responds
to Waste Spill
Alyeska Pipeline responded to a solid
waste spill on the Richardson Highway on Thursday, August 27, after a waste container slid
off of a flatbed trailer heading toward Fairbanks. The source of the 32,000 pounds of
waste was Alyeskas Ballast Water Treatment Facility at the Valdez Marine Terminal.
The waste was being transported to Fairbanks for incineration when the incident occurred.
Approximately 99 percent of the material
has been recovered. The contractor responsible for managing the waste will complete the
remainder of the clean up of the site.
The incident is under investigation.
First Annual Golf
Tournament Raises Funds for Alaskas Children
Alyeska Pipeline raised $65,000 for
the Alaska Childrens Trust at the First Annual Alyeska Pipeline sponsored golf
tournament on Saturday, August 29. Thirty-six teams participated in the event. Plans for
next years event are underway.
The Alaska Childrens Trust was
created in 1988 to address rising rates of child neglect, abuse, community violence and
juvenile crime. The Trust is designed to promote and financially support community-based
initiatives to strengthen families and children.
