ALYESKA REPORT
WEEK OF AUGUST 31, 1998

Alyeska Responds to Waste Spill

Alyeska Pipeline responded to a solid waste spill on the Richardson Highway on Thursday, August 27, after a waste container slid off of a flatbed trailer heading toward Fairbanks. The source of the 32,000 pounds of waste was Alyeska’s Ballast Water Treatment Facility at the Valdez Marine Terminal. The waste was being transported to Fairbanks for incineration when the incident occurred.

Approximately 99 percent of the material has been recovered. The contractor responsible for managing the waste will complete the remainder of the clean up of the site.

The incident is under investigation.

First Annual Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Alaska’s Children

Alyeska Pipeline raised $65,000 for the Alaska Children’s Trust at the First Annual Alyeska Pipeline sponsored golf tournament on Saturday, August 29. Thirty-six teams participated in the event. Plans for next year’s event are underway.

The Alaska Children’s Trust was created in 1988 to address rising rates of child neglect, abuse, community violence and juvenile crime. The Trust is designed to promote and financially support community-based initiatives to strengthen families and children.
