WEEK OF FEBRUARY 14, 2000
|
Alyeska Conducts Unannounced
Notification Exercise
Alyeska Pipeline Service Company conducted
an emergency notification exercise in Anchorage on Sunday, February 13, 2000, between 9:00
a.m. and 12:00 noon. The unannounced notification exercise was part of Alyeskas
overall readiness training for emergency response to assemble a team quickly in the event
of a real emergency. The notification exercise tested on-duty security personnels
ability to contact more than 60 Anchorage emergency response personnel during off-duty
hours. Fifty-one people were contacted during the required three-hour time period --
approximately 83 percent -- and more than 90 percent was obtained later in the day.
According to Alyeska General Services
Department Manager Les Alldredge, this was a good response. We could have easily
staffed our Emergency Response Team during the three-hour time period. Our response plan
calls for a 30-person response team. We chose to set a 90 percent target notification goal
for this exercise for contacting both primary and alternate response personnel. In a real
emergency situation, we would have contacted alternate response personnel only if the
primary contact was not available.
