Alyeska Participates in Anchorage Museum
Fundraiser
Alyeska Pipeline Service Company was one of nine
corporate sponsors for the Anchorage Museums Gala 2000,
an annual event which raises funds for museum exhibits,
public programs and acquisitions. This years dinner,
March 18th, included both live and silent auctions, had
more than 400 attendees and raised over $90,000 for the
Anchorage Museum Association. In addition to sponsoring two tables, Alyeska pur-chased a Fred Machetanz original lithograph titled "Glow of the Lamp." Other items auctioned included artwork, dinners, trips and fishing charters.
Alyeska Supports Koahnic Broadcast
Corporation
Willie Hensley, Manager of Federal Government Relations for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, served as Master of Ceremonies for Koahnic Broadcast Corporations (KBC) 5th Annual Alaska Native Art Auction. The March 16th fundraiser featured artwork by renowned Alaska Native artists and raised over $100,000 to benefit KNBA 90.3 FM and National Native News. KNBA 90.3 FM is the countrys first urban Native radio station, and National Native News is the only daily Native news program in the nation. Alyeska
sponsored a table and purchased an Athabascan birch
baby basket created by Margie Sparks of Tok and a whalebone carving by Richard Olanna of
Shismaref. Both will be displayed in Alyeskas
Washing-ton, DC office. KBC is a non-profit Alaska Native media organization headquartered in Anchorage.
Employees and Projects Receive
Governors Safety Awards
Alyeska Pipeline Service Company employees and projects were among thirteen recipients of the Governors
Safety Awards presented March 21st, during the 20th Annual Alaska Governors Safety and Health Conference at
the Egan Center. Alyeska
Pipeline Service Company, Houston/NANA, J.V. and other
contractors received the Governors Safety Award
of Excellence for the RGV Controls System Up-grade B023
Project, and the Remote Gate Valve 60 (RGV-60) Replacement
Project. These projects were honored for "their
demonstration of excellence in safety and health systems
that protect their employees." The B023 project
involves replacing the existing remote gate valve
control systems with programmable logic controllers
(PLCs). The PLCs reduce the risk of pipeline overpressure
resulting from unexpected RGV closures. For their
outstanding achievements in the field of safety and
health, the Governors Special Achievement Award
was presented to Keith Heffner, former Alyeska Director
of Corporate Safety, and Duane Taylor, Valdez Project
Safety Manager.
Alyeska Donates to Native Organization
The Fairbanks Native Association (FNA) held its annual Potlatch Saturday, March 25th at the Peter John Tribal Hall in Fairbanks. Alyeska was once again a major sponsor for this years event and contributed to a
scholarship given to a young participant at the cultural
celebration. Curtis Thomas,
Fairbanks Business Unit (FBU) Corporate Communications
Manager for Alyeska, presented the check to FNA
Leaders. Wes Underwood, FNA President, publicly thanked
Alyeska for its continued support of the organization
and the Native people of Alaska.
