Alyeska Moves
Port Etches Barge for Winter
Citing safety concerns due to
winter weather in Prince William Sound, Alyeskas Ship Escort and Response Vessel
System (SERVS) Monday began the process of relocating its prepositioned barge at Port
Etches to Naked Island. Alyeska made the decision to move the barge due to
safety concerns about the personnel and equipment during the winter months. Since
high winds and seas are common to the area in winter, the barge will stay moored at Naked
Island through the winter weather season. The barge, one of 4 TransRec barges
stationed in Prince William Sound and Port Valdez, provides an operating platform and
recovered oil storage for major skimming systems. A repair and operations crew mans
the barge 24 hours a day. The move does not impact Alyeska SERVS ability to fully
comply with State and Federal response plans. Alyeska expects the barge move to be
complete by Monday evening.

reviewing the notice and will prepare a written response.

Many to Fund Valdez Domestic Violence Shelter
The
Advocates of Victims of Violence (AVV) raised more than $40,000 at their Space Odyssey
2001 Gala January 6. The event was underwritten in part by Alyeska Pipeline.
Alyeska and TAPS employees provided volunteer support to the event designed to raise funds
to eliminate the remaining debt on AVVs new shelter. AVV is dedicated to
ending domestic violence and sexual assault in the Valdez and Copper River Basin area by
providing confidential services to victims and their families, offering educational
programs and providing a 24-hour crisis line.
