Willow
Ptarmigan The Willow
ptarmigan (Lagopus lagopus), Alaska's state bird, is a grouse that lives in tundra and
shrubland habitats. This female's plumage camouflages her in summer, while breeding
males have a russet head and neck, and a white body. Both sexes turn white in winter
and have a layer of insulating feathers that covers their legs and feet. |
