1979: A historic year for TAPS

In 1979, major milestones in TAPS — and Alaska — history were reached all year.

After the momentous TAPS start-up in 1977, the pipeline’s operations and impact were off and running by 1979, and history was practically being made weekly. From the Yukon River bridge opening to the 1,000th tanker leaving Valdez, new a pump station going online and new efficiencies improving operations, 1979 was a game-changing year for TAPS, pipeline workers and Alaska.
