Vice President, Operations & Maintenance

With 20-plus years of experience working on TAPS, Hillary Schaefer is currently Alyeska’s Vice President of Operations & Maintenance. In this role, she is accountable for overseeing operations and maintenance of all pipeline, pump stations, terminal, and Ship Escort Response Vessel assets from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez.

Hillary’s TAPS experience is inclusive of field work in operations, facility and civil maintenance, HSE, and oil spill response. She has a diversity of knowledge about the TAPS system and Alaska’s oil and gas industry, with a strong record of leading successful teams, leading through challenging situations, and overseeing complex systems.

Hillary joined Alyeska in December 1999, through its Building Foundations for Excellence Program, as a field environmental coordinator. Since, she has held positions of increasing responsibility in right of way civil maintenance, oil spill response, pump station supervisor, pipeline area manager, systemwide maintenance manager and pipeline director.

Hillary grew up in Southern California, earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health from Colorado State University, and then moved to Alaska. She is an avid fisherman and lover of winter sports. Having lived in Alaska for more than 30 years, she understands the importance of TAPS to Alaska and manages the system with unwavering operational discipline.
